Hemlock House Addition

Falls Church, Virginia

This 450 sq. ft. addition to and renovation of a two-story 1,800 sf mid-century modern home has resulted in a sensitive modernization of the home’s original 1955 core spaces. The house is located in Holmes Run Acres in Falls Church, Virginia, a neighborhood listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The original design is that of a “Luria” model – one of the four models designed by architects well known in the DC area, Nicolas Satterlee and Donald Lethbridge. The homes in the neighborhood are of a modular post and beam construction and were designed in the style influenced by both the “California Ranch” as well as Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Usonian Architecture”.
